A few days ago, the Draft National AI Policy was withdrawn after it emerged that AI had been used in its creation and some of the sources it cited were fabricated. A revised draft is being prepared.
Your Say on AI was an independent initiative. Not commissioned by government, not paid for by anyone. Just a free tool, built by a small team who recognised that reading a full government policy is genuinely difficult, and wanted to create entry points so more South Africans could engage with one that will shape their lives.
Because the revised policy will look substantially different, we've taken the platform down for now. We'll rebuild it around the new draft when it's released.
Until then, work well with AI. We call this the I-MODEL. Be Intentional about what you want from AI (and whether you really even need AI for the task). Practice Inquiry when you get back something from AI. Question, push back, iterate. Draw on Integrity. Use AI responsibly and ethically. Be transparent (and accountable) about your use of AI. And don't forget your Intuition. Take note when something feels off or feels just right. You are the human. Sometimes you just know.
